Post Your Goals Where You Can See Them

Posted in Management Tips by admin on the April 18th, 2008

One simple tip for staying on track towards your goals is to write your weekly goals on a marker board in your office. This isn’t a to do list. It’s a list of the important items you expect to have accomplished by the end of the week. On the left side I write my primary goals for the week (maximum of 3), and on the right side I list my secondary goals (this week I have 9 of those). I setup my primary goals such that achieving even one of them is better than achieving all the secondary goals combined.

Whenever you achieve one of your weekly goals, just draw a line through it. Don’t erase anything. Then at the end of the week, your marker board contains your accountability record for the week. You can see which goals you achieved and which you didn’t, and then you can think about how you can improve next week. Maybe you tried to do too much. Maybe you succumbed to too many distractions. Maybe you achieved most of your secondary goals but none of your primaries. Or maybe you achieved all your goals and believe you can push yourself a bit more next week.

I keep most of my planning docs and lists on my PC and then print them out on paper periodically, but I like using the marker board in my office for posting my weekly goals. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the actions of the day and not be able to see the forest for the trees, and when you look at your long-term goals, they may seem very distant. So I like having these weekly mini-milestones, since there’s a natural rhythm to a week, and when I do my weekly review and update all my planning docs, a quick glance at my marker board helps me set new mini-goals for the coming week.

I also like that whenever I see my marker board, I see my goals for the week, and this reminds me of where I want to be by the weekend. Again, these are goals outcomes not just tasks.

For example, this week my top two primary goals involve sticking with a new exercise program. The first goal was to do my new morning exercise routine every day this week, and the second goal was for the evening routine. This split routine takes about 120 minutes per day, most of it doubled-up with reading or listening to audio programs. My third primary goal was to complete the outline for my first info product. I’m on track to achieve the first two goals (haven’t missed a day), and I’ll complete the second goal today. I know some people wouldn’t place a new exercise program as their primary goal, but based on my goals for the year, it’s the most important thing for me. In fact, my #1 goal for the year is actually a health/fitness goal, not a business one. So your primary and secondary goals need to be based around what’s most important to you, whether they’re personal or business related.

Instead of using a marker board, you could post your weekly goals in other ways, but I like the simplicity of the marker board. And there’s just something so satisfying about drawing a line through one of the goals that’s been achieved, much more satisfying than erasing it. It may be because when you erase your completed goals, you only see what you have left to do. But when you see some items crossed off, you can still read them and recall, “Hey, I finished that one.” So there may be a hidden self-esteem boost that comes from reinforcing the message that you’re getting things done. At the end of a week, I don’t just want to see a list of what I didn’t get done. I also like seeing what I actually did accomplish.

Leaders: Born or Made?

Posted in Management Tips by admin on the March 30th, 2008

Many people wonder if leaders are born or made. Those that believe that leaders are born state that you can find leadership traits at a young age, by observing their relationships with other children. An example of this would be a child that the others gravitate to or the one that has the most friends. Although, this is true I believe that leadership can be develop. I believe this because as humans I do not think that anyone is perfect. Some people are smart in school; others seem to be cleverer outside of school (street wise) while, there are those that prefer engaging in creative activities such as arts and crafts etc.

I also know by experience that we have the ability to change who we are. Do not get me wrong this is not about changing your entire personality. It is more about being able to recognize your faults and flaws in order to start working on becoming a better person. An example of this would be having low self esteem. Leaders need to be confident in order to be able to take new risks and walk thru unknown territory.

Take a good look at yourself but most importantly be honest. Dare to see and admit your flaws. Not so that you can dwell on them. It is so that you can work on becoming a better or successful person. Only then, you will break barriers standing in the way of your success and ultimately become a leader in your own special way.

Best wishes,

Reaching for the Goal

Posted in Management Tips by admin on the March 17th, 2008

Can goals be easily reached? This question is in most of our minds. Some tend to think that goals are hard to achieve and that only very clever people can be true achievers!

Remember the saying ‘If there is a will, there is a way’? I bet many of you do. For me this is a mantra which makes me believe that whatever I want to do is possible if I put my mind to it.

If you have a dream to make it big in a specific field of work or study, you can if you try. Yes, the focus is on yourself and how hard are you going to work on that aspiration.

Below are some basic steps for working on a goal:

1. Planning

The most essential thing to do as stated by experts is that one must first plan the action for making that dream come true. You can even write the plan down on paper to keep track of the planning process.

2. Read

Reading enriches our mind and adds to our knowledge base. If there is a specific area in which you are looking to excel read up on that topic vastly. Find out how and what you need to reach that goal. It also helps to read about how others have been successful in reaching their goals. In a way it helps to motivate you.

3. Be Positive

Encourage yourself to be positive and work towards the goal. If your goal is to score well for the exam paper tell your mind to focus and be positive.

4. Work Hard

Of course for one to do well in an examination pure positive thoughts are not going to help if the person doesn’t work hard. In order to make this goal come real that person has to study and ensure that he or she has the potential to score well for the paper. No pain no gain, remember?

A goal is not something too high to be reached nor something so easily gained if one does not work hard. It all depends on how much you are willing to do to ensure success. Plan your goal, work on it and pretty soon you will be reaching it. Good luck!

How to Build Loyal Followers

Posted in Management Tips by admin on the January 1st, 2008

Legitimate Power, also know as earned or respect power, is a combination of respect, reputation, and your history. Reputation is the sum total of how you have conducted yourself in your professional and personal affairs. If you have shown respect, integrity, and character in all your dealings, people will know it.

Legitimate Power is the type of power an individual has when they are placed in special regard because of their honorable character. As a result of being honorable, other people trust and respect these individuals, willingly following them. This type of power is earned through one’s track record, stability, and use of past power. It precedes a person and remains to influence others, even when their physical presence is gone. It exaggerates strengths and can create an aura that instills respect, even awe.

But more than just reputation, this power gets its roots from the 10 commandments of influence. Respect power is the hardest of all powers to gain. It must be earned one a drop at a time, but it is also the longest lasting. Respect power has a sustained influence on the audience long beyond the speaker’s actual physical presence. The persuader must have honor, integrity, character, trustworthiness, and engender respect to earn Legitimate Power.

Respect power is based on having unquestionable honor, integrity, and dependability. When someone possesses Legitimate Power, their basic character is without deceit or fraud. Rather, their character is based on the truth. Such a personal commitment to integrity is felt by those around them and creates a long-term loyalty and respect. When individuals perceive that their leaders are legitimate, it gives them power. People instinctively trust them and are willing to be led and persuaded by them.

Parents and religious leaders often possess this type of power. Because of their reputation, people are influenced on the spot, without needing to analyze the speaker or the persuasive situation. Reputation has a power like magic. With one stroke of its wand, your good reputation can double your ability to persuade.

Francis Bacon once said, “Knowledge itself is power.” Knowledge Power is earned Legitimate Power. It is based on the individual’s expertise in a certain subject, procedure, or situation. People can be persuaded if they think you have more expertise than they do. For example, lawyers and doctors possess this type of power. People rely on their opinions, believe what they say, and trust implicitly what they do because of the extent of schooling or experience they have. We accept the arguments and data of people we assume have knowledge, whether it’s real or perceived. Knowledge Power also includes experience, wisdom, and intelligence.

Informational Power - When you know something others need to know, you hold power over them. Informational Power is exerted when an institution’s influence is based on the information it holds. Aristotle Onassis said, “The secret of business is to know something that no one else knows.”

Resource Power - If you have access to key persons, commodities, goods, or services valued by others, you hold some power over them. As the saying goes, “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.”

Expertise Power - When you have special skill sets, expertise, or knowledge that others believe is relevant to their needs and which exceeds their own, they will do what you say or listen to your opinions.

Everyone persuades for a living. There’s no way around it. Whether you’re a sales professional, an entrepreneur, or even a stay at home parent, if you are unable to convince others to your way of thinking, you will be constantly left behind. Get your free reports at Magnetic Persuasion to make sure that you are not left watching others pass you on the road to success. Donald Trump said it best, “Study the art of persuasion. Practice it. Develop an understanding of its profound value across all aspects of life.”

Kurt Mortensen’s trademark is Magnetic Persuasion; rather than convincing others, he teaches that you should attract them, just like a magnet attracts metal filings. He teaches that sales have changed and the consumer has become exponentially more skeptical and cynical within the last five years. Most persuaders are using only 2 or 3 persuasion techniques when there are actually 120 available! Improving your business in 7 steps

Objects: Make sure the promotional product and campaign is coupled to or bolster up with a well-defined marketing or communications objective. The aims should not be too complicated.

Target Audiences:
Creating a targeted, promotional gifts campaign should be directed to a particular audience. An objective for each audience must be formulated.

Messages:
Promotional products campaigns had better express a preset content to each audience. This message must be clear and concise. No one effort should attempt to transmit too many messages. Normally, most beneficial results are attained when only one or two key points are accented.

Theme:
An “umbrella” program theme should be prepared. The subject should take into account subject matter, audiences and the nature of the product or service.

Originality:
Promotional item topics and products should be as original as possible to pique interest.

Usefulness:
Promotional items need be practical gifts that receivers will use repeatedly. If the item is not used frequently, it should be attractive or cosmetic and remain in view.

Follow-ups:
Some of the best promotional product efforts result in an improved rate of reaction from receivers or permit sales force follow-ups either by phone or in person. In this manner a drive can become a door opener.

distributing via leaflets

Posted in Management Tips, Informationer by admin on the July 17th, 2007

If you’re blanketing, using the postal service is a possible alternative to organising your own door-to-door distribution and may make it more likely that recipients will read your leaflet. You can find out about Royal Mail’s door-to-door leaflet distribution service on the Royal Mail website.

If you want a return on your investment, you need to prepare your materials carefully. Ensure materials look professional and contain clear, useful information.

To find out how effective your campaign has been, it’s a good idea to include some kind of incentive for feedback. For instance, you could provide a small discount or special offer for the first 100 customers who bring in your leaflet. As with any such offers, make sure they’re priced into your overall budget for the campaign.

Posted in Management Tips, Insurance Market, It's Your Business by admin on the July 4th, 2007

The construction safety audit protects your personnel, saves you time, reduces costs and prevents accidents.

Being proactive and finding potentially dangerous situations and hazards is the goal.

Planned safety and loss control audits, performed at scheduled intervals, allow prioritized/efficient corrective actions to be taken.

Nine safety issues that can be found on a construction job site include:

  1. Office trailers, unused doors and accesses must be blocked or sealed to prevent falls.
  2. Loading Platforms are another place where falls can happen.
  3. Stairs are a known location for injuries to occur.
  4. Ladders or ladder sections that are damaged must not be used.
  5. Trenching poses risks that must be minimized.
  6. Rigging slings must not be used when heavily damaged.
  7. Containers need labels displaying contents and hazards.
  8. Flammable storage cabinets are used where the amount of flammable liquids being stored exceeds 25 gallons.

How to Set Effective Goals That Guarantee Your Success

Posted in Management Tips by admin on the June 20th, 2007

In this article, I will be sharing with you the secrets to set effective goals that will guarantee your success. I wish you can apply it into your own goals setting. and wish all your goals come true.

So what is a goal? In my previous issues, I talked a lot about quantum creation , and manifestation. You have already know that the universe will always obey your order, take your instruction and turn it into the exact things you want. Believe it or not, you are creating all the time, the only difference is some of your creations are unconscious, and some are conscious. Unfortunately, most of our unconscious creation are not what we truly want, as a result, we are consistently creating what we don’t want, and end up with an unhappy life. A goal is something that helps you eliminate unconscious creation, and turns it into conscious creation. A goal is the order, or the command that you send out to the universe consciously, and as a result, you will get what you consciously want, and ultimately the ideal life that you enjoy living.

The process of goals setting is to help you get clear about want you truly want, turn your unconscious goals in to conscious goals so that you will be able to literally design your own life and have absolute control about your life.

You may have heard a lot about goals setting, and tried many types of goals setting programs. but most of them fail, The reason is not because the programs don’t work, the reason is because of your own beliefs and thinking. I can tell you any goals setting program works, even the most simple one, just by writing down your goals, you can achieve them. Why some people come out from a goals setting workshop with great result, but others with little or no results. This leads to today’s topic, what makes a goal effective?

What makes a goal effective?

First , your goals must be in harmony with your higher purpose. I believe that we all have a purpose in our life, this purpose has already be chosen even before we were born. Do you find yourself have some special talent, something that you enjoy to do , and you can it effortlessly, but others find it difficult? Do you find there is something that you enjoy doing so much such that the whole world suddenly disappear, the only thing exists is you and the things you are doing. At those moments, you are on purpose. Whenever you are in harmony with your purpose, you fell joy and happiness. A most effective goal must be in harmony with your purpose, this is the only way to ensure that you not only achieve your goal, but also enjoy the process. The The process become enjoyable, and you also feel the fulfillment. Yes you can achieve your goals without being in harmony with your purpose, but you will never feel successful even you have all the accomplishments, and all the achievement. The easiest way to find your purpose is to pay attention to what you are good at, and what you are enjoy to do. If you can’t find it yourself, ask your parents, ask your friends, ask your families. Everyone have a special talent, that is the reason you come to this planet.

Secondly, Your goals must be beneficial to the world. I am not trying to make myself honorable, but this is true, unless you goals are beneficial to others, you will not find anyone to corporate with you, the universe will also not work to your advantage. A selfish goal will never make it big. You can see from the biggest success in the world, all these people had a mission to make others life better, to help the world become a better place. How much better our life have become because of the computer? This makes Bill Gates become the richest man in the world. The more beneficial your goal is to others, the more value it will produce, and the more achievable it will become.

Thirdly, your goals must be supported by your own subconscious beliefs. Do you have an experience that you set a goal, and you did everything to make it happen, and at the last minute something happened, and it destroyed everything, your desires suddenly disappeared, and you went back to your comfortable zone? I did have this kind of experience, I did not know why until I realized that I was holding some subconscious beliefs that are contradictive to my goals. That means I wanted something, but my subconscious mind didn’t. Your contradictive subconscious beliefs will create negative blocks that are extremely hard to break, this is why a simple task sometimes becomes very big in your mind, you dare not to take any action. An effective goal must be in harmony with your current subconscious beliefs. You beliefs can change overtime due to your experience and the books you read, but you can never achieve anything that is bigger than your current beliefs. If your belief says that you can only make $1000 per month, you don’t set a goal of making $1 million dollar per month. Set a goal that is believable to your subconscious mind, once you have done $1000 dollar again and again, and you are so comfortable with it, your subconscious mind will start to believe the possibility to make $10,0000 dollars per month, and your goals will grow bigger and bigger from there.

How to test whether your goal is supported by your subconscious beliefs or not? I learned a simple test from Dr Robert Anthony, the legendary peak performance expert. The test is very simple, you draw a vertical line on a blank piece of paper, on one side, you write Yes, and on another, write no. Take a piece of string, tie something on one end to make an pendulum, hold your pendulum directly above the vertical line. Ask yourself the question ” Can I achieve the goal of …”. If you subconscious mind thinks it is possible, your pendulum will go to the yes side, and if not, it will go to the no side. I just want you to know that your subconscious mind does not always agree with your conscious mind. This test can only be used as a guide, don’t rely too much on the result you see from this test, because it won’t be 100% accurate if you only use it once or twice. Dr Robert Anthony has discussed in details about the conscious and subconscious contradictions in his audio program “Know How to Be Rich”, I am amazed by his deep understanding of the human mind and the universal laws. You can get a copy of this program from (http://www.theultimatesecrets.com/Robert.htm)

Fourthly, goals must be exact. As I have said that your goal was the command you send to the universe, so for the universe to be able to execute your command, it must understand exactly what you mean. ” I want more money” is only a wish, not a goal. The universe could not know what you want if you just tell it “I want more money”, OK, you want more money, here is one cent, take it. Since you want more money, one cent more is also more. The universe does not know how to fulfill your desire if you don’t tell it exactly. A real goal is something like this ” I intend to manifest $10,000 dollars by 31 Jan 2005″,” I intent to set up my company by 1 March 2005″. Don’t confuse the universe by an unclear goal. Ask for something specific, and the universe will end up giving you the specific result.

The fifth element for an effective goal is that your goals must be compelling enough so that it will trigger your emotions every time you think about them. Emotion creates motivation, motivation leads to action, and action will give you result. How much result you get depends on the quality of your emotion. Positive emotion create positive results, negative emotion creates negative results. From scientific point of view, positive emotion sends out positive vibration, and will attract back positive results with the same vibration frequency. Be careful how you feel, because you are creating the same results as you feel.

I hope this article gives you some ideas how to make an effective goal, and you may want to modify a bit your goals to make them more effective. Wish all you goals come true
