How to Win in Online Poker

Posted in The Tutors Way, The Technology Way, Gambling World by admin on the July 1st, 2008

When people speak of online poker, there is one poker variant that cuts above the rest — the Texas Hold’em poker game. This variant of poker is considered to be the most popular type being played in the online casinos. The same popularity also extends to television and the World Tour of Poker.

Put simply, Texas Hold’em involves fours rounds of betting: the first after the hands of two “pocket” cards have been dealt; the second after a “flop” of three cards has been dealt on the table; the third and fourth after “turn” and “river” cards have been dealt on the table. The object is to get the best standard poker hand of five cards, using any of the five table cards or the two cards in hand.

While all poker game variants involve a lot of psychological play - and Texas Hold’em is certainly not an exception - it is possible to play winning poker with a purely mathematical strategy. The sheer amount of players online ensures that you can cash in on the bad players: the gamblers.

It is important to find information on different online poker rooms, because they have different levels of opposition. Depending on whether your goal is simply to win pennies or to become a better player, you should choose a completely different poker room to play in. Poker room reviews help by giving you that information.

Let go of your gambler’s instinct: learn about winning Internet poker.

Absolutely True - Winning Poker Begins with a Winning Attitude

Posted in Gambling World by admin on the May 7th, 2008

Here’s some Holy help:

Church of Texas Holdem Psalm #2:
Winning poker always begins with a winning attitude.

I can hear you cry: “Come now, Father Ashley. We’re not fools. It can’t be as simple as that.”

There are millions of optimistic losers out there. People who would not know winning poker if it bit them on the behind. People who keep calling for one more card, in case they hit their miracle middle pin straight, or runner-runner flush. Sometimes, they will.

These are the same guys and gals who get up every morning and think: “Today might be the day my luck changes.” Usually, they’re wrong. Sometimes, the poker gods will smile upon them, but more often, they’re still at the mercy of the solid, patient, winning poker players.

But I return to COTH Psalm #2. You cannot be a winning poker player without a winning attitude.

Begin every session, every tournament, every single hand, as if you have never suffered a bad beat or a losing day. Keep in your mind a clear, achievable goal. An example of a clear, achievable goal is:

“I want to win $200 today.”

An example of a clear, yet less achievable goal is:

“I want to qualify for the WSOP via a satellite today.”

It’s possible, but such a challenge should always be viewed as a longer-term goal.

See the difference between this mindset, and the much more common one (among losers and casual gamblers):

“I’ll sit down with $100 now and see what happens.”

Or even worse:

“I will lose no more than $250. If that goes, I’m stopping.”

Most of the time, those players, whose experience has taught them that losing hurts, but not what to do about it (study the game, buy a book, get advice from an expert, or give up and spend their money some other way) will not play winning poker and so be down after that session.

That’s because they have begun their session expecting to lose! When they do, it’s no surprise. They have set themselves up to be a losing player.

Often a player who is dealt a pair of Aces will react with mixed feelings. There’s a little glow of excitement, sure, but this is tempered with a feeling of fear. After all, Aces sometimes get beaten, and usually when they do it’s a big chunk of their change in the middle of the cloth.

More often than not, it’s fear which leads to mistakes and mistakes which lead to losing. So be bold, be brave, and above all… be positive. You will become a winning poker player and your bankroll will thank you for it.

Here endeth the lesson.

How To Win At Poker

Posted in Gambling World by admin on the September 9th, 2007

If you stop and think about it, just about everybody – no, make that everybody – wants to know how to win at poker. Most everyone firmly believes in his or her own particular theories concerning poker, and most importantly, they also believe in their own particular methods of how to win at poker. Just not everybody wins.

After all, for one person to win, another person (or indeed the entire table of poker players) needs to lose. What this really translates into is that no matter how good you think your theory on how to win at poker is, someone will have a better theory – it just depends on a number of factors to see who will come out the better, you or the other player with a better theory.

In case that wasn’t clear enough, there really is no particular method that you can use to win at poker. There are a number of combinations and factors, and there a number of circumstances which will go into making someone win at poker, but none of these will tell you exactly how to win at poker.

For instance, if someone won a pot with a starting hand of 9-7 spades, this does not mean that they will win the pot if they again get the same starting pair.

Besides having to rely on other factors such as the remaining three cards that person will get (or the table, in the case of Texas Holdem), he/ she will also have to factor in the number of players at the table, the strength and the weaknesses of the other players, and more crucially, whether or not someone else might have a better hand then he/ she does.

And that’s just for starters. Then there’s the element of luck involved in all gambling games, not only poker. Some people might argue over this thing called luck and say that it has no place when you’re trying to learn how to win at poker, but the truth of the matter is that there is always a small element of luck whenever you’re playing poker.

However, if we put aside luck for the moment and go with other factors which can help you to learn how to win at poker, the largest going concern we should take would be that of skill. This is practically the one and only way that you can be assured of winning the pot.

Without any skill you can be assured that you will lose the majority of your hands, and that for lack of anything resembling knowledge or experience of the game. What you really need to do is to practice as much as you can, learning your strengths and trying to deal with or eliminate entirely, your weaknesses.

It is only when you have mastered these skills that you will know how to win at poker, consistently, and also how to take defeat in your stride and make it into an eventual win by learning from it.

Sports Betting and Customer Service

Posted in Gambling World by admin on the May 27th, 2007

When looking for a sports betting site online, one of the most important things to look at is the level of customer service that a site provides. You never want to do business with a site that does not offer top notch customer support. Even though this may not seem like a big deal, and definitely is. Waiting for an answer to an important question can be very frustrating. This is especially true if you need an answer quickly.

One way to find out if a customer service department is reliable or not is by simply testing them out. Give the customer service department a call and ask them a couple questions. This will give you a good feel for what kind of support you would get on a daily basis. If you have to hold the line for an hour before somebody helps you, you may want to consider finding another site. Also, don’t just give them a call. Send an email to the customer service department as well. This is sometimes the quickest way of getting an answer. So by testing out both of these avenues you will be able to get an overall feel for the level of service that they provide.

It is also very important to be dealing with a good customer service department in case you run into payment issues. If your credit card is being overcharged for some reason you will definitely need to speak with a customer service rep. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are not receiving your pay outs on time you will need to find out why.

The customer service department is one of the most important aspects to look at when choosing an online sports betting site. Be sure to do your homework in this area; you will be happy that you did the first time you need to contact them.

Find Freeroll Tournaments

Posted in Gambling World by admin on the May 22nd, 2007

The most effective way to familiarise yourself with Texas
Hold’em tournaments is to locate and play in as many online
poker freerolls as possible. You can’t beat playing in a real
tournament to gain valuable experience and it’s even better when
you don’t have to stump up any of your own cash to participate.

However, finding suitable freerolls can sometimes prove to be a
difficult task as some poker rooms require you to have played a
set number of raked hands before you are eligible to play in one
of their freeroll tournaments.

The chore of locating available freerolls on a day to day basis
has been lessened as PokerListings.com provides not only a
comprehensive listing of freerolls but also a slew of
eligibility information you need to know without aimlessly
logging in and out of poker rooms trying to find a game.

When you visit the site, click the “Poker Freerolls” tab and
search away. In addition to Hold’em freerolls, you will also
find freeroll tournaments for other games you love. You can
search by day, date, time, game, type, poker room, and prize
pool. One unique, time saving feature is the listings of
requirements you need to meet in order to join the tournament.

The best place online for multiple opportunities throughout the
day to play in a $100 freeroll can be found at Poker.com where
several freerolls are offered throughout the day to entice new
players to their virtual poker room. The website also sports
larger freeroll tournaments for players that meet their raked
hand requirements. You can also visit Poker.Betbonus.co.uk for
details on poker rooms specific to the UK.

Remember, freerolls offer a fantastic opportunity to not only
hone your tournament skills, but to also try out different rooms
and see which one suits you best.
