Computer Programming Basics You Should Know

Posted in Miscellaneous, College Education, Help + Advice by admin on the April 17th, 2008

Can you tell me how to prepare a bowl of cereals with milk?  Too simple, right?  You can probably provide a series of simple actions to be performed in about a minute.  Now try making a computer to do just that.  What began as a simple task now appears really hard.

Preliminary Steps

Computer programming provides whole new world of opportunities.  Quite ironically, programming actually began in the 1200s, when simple machines were devised to perform non-complicated mechanical tasks.  It has developed into an art and as a science since then, making available the technologies that have made human life easier and faster.

Once you start grasping computer programming techniques, some of the basic stuff you will encounter include:

- The basic understanding of the discipline

You will need a good background in the field in order for you to know how it really works.  With a solid foundation built on knowing the basics of computer programming, it will be easier to learn its details, including procedures, steps and other instructions.

- Knowing the types of programming

Basically there are two types of programming, each of which has its own uses and set of advantages and limitations.  Procedural programming is quite useful particularly because it is such an easy and simple way to guide a computer what to do.  It is also the heart and soul of many computer languages.  Basically, it is an input-output operation, where a user or programmer inputs a set of instructions and a computer follows those instructions.  Learning procedural programming helps new programmers learn elements such as sequence, selection and iteration.

The other type of programming is object-oriented, which is relatively new.  It treats instructions as a set of objects.  With object-oriented programming, you will know about object properties, event handlers and methods.

You will learn both types of programming as part of a fundamental course.  Using the cereal and milk analogy, for example, you will be able to write a code that will tell a computer how to pour the right amount of cereal into a bowl and how much milk to use, in that order.  And if you are truly good, you can even tell the computer what specific type of cereal and milk to use.

- Understanding the nature of the code

Programming codes power a computer program. Codes vary in design and use as per the language.  Codes are at the heart of a computer program and will be one of the basics you will learn in programming.

- Studying problem-solving

Problem solving consumes so much time – how to create a source code for a desired end result, how to fix a bug, how to solve a glitch, how to put things together or in sequence so they work.  You will learn how to look at a problem, break it down to its solvable components and come up with ways to solve it.

Logical Thinking

If you are not a fan of mathematics and logic, you will be dismayed to know that many of the computer programming fundamentals you will be learning will require you to think in numbers, figures and sequences.  However, these basics are easy to learn, if you show enough patience and follow the right steps.  Once you have trained your mind to think like this, you are well on your way to a great career as a computer programmer.

Pit Biking in the soul

Posted in College Education, Content Is King, Children, Adventurous Life by admin on the March 19th, 2008

Is pitbiking in your soul? or just your soil? - I have been pitbiking for over 2 years now and I can’t stop - its what I love doing - it makes me happy and I love it. I am into my third series of pitbiking videos that I make by strapping a little camera to the front and back of my pit bike then doing crazy stunts over at my mates house.

My pitbiking videos are pretty popular with the kids who like the fact that I do stunts that aren’t too crazy but still look awesome when filming them with a wide angle lense strapped to a camera strapped to my 125cc pit bike. I have to say that the video editing is becoming sloppier but who cares - bikers aren’t exactly clean people!

San Francisco Schools Connect to China and its Chinese Community

Posted in College Education by admin on the March 10th, 2008

The Alice Fong Yu Alternative School

The Alice Fong Yu Alternative School, one San Francisco School, is the first Chinese immersion school in the United States. The school is designed as a two-way Chinese/English instructional environment. The school provides an outstanding educational experience for children of all backgrounds. All students at Alice Fong Yu develop competency in the Cantonese and English languages and use the two languages actively in the content curriculum. The school aims to have all students to be able to converse in and become literate in both English and Cantonese by 5th grade. The Mandarin language is added after the fifth grade. The Mandarin/English program is similar in scope and function to the Cantonese/English program. The program is intended to vigorously include the staff, parents, and students in cultural and language education. The Alice Fong Yu school uses parents and volunteers in a variety of enrichment programs such as, Performing Arts Workshop, Poets in the Schools, and science and library consultants.

The Alice Fong Yu Alternative School’s Chinese Exchange Program

Created in 2000, the exchange program sends the eighth grade class to Beijing to meet their Chinese pen pals. The program gives students the opportunity to use their knowledge of the Chinese language and culture in a real life experience. The students travel to Beijing and Hong Kong where they meet Chinese students their own age. This experience allows students to experience the culture first-hand and put their language skills to the ultimate test.

In January of 2005, the program came closer to being a true exchange program. San Francisco Schools through the Alice Fong Yu School hosted students and teachers from The Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University. The selected students and two teachers from China stayed with host families and participated in classes and school functions including English, art and modern dance classes. The Chinese students were able to tour City College, the Chinese Consulate and many interesting tourist destinations in the San Francisco area. Both the local and Chinese students spent their time practicing English and Mandarin.

Dance and Art Students from San Francisco Schools Travel to China

Other programs in San Francisco Schools have allowed students to travel to China to participate in international exchanges and competitions. This summer five students from the San Francisco School of Arts will travel to ShenZhen, China as representatives of the United States at the ShenZhen International Culture and Arts Festival. As part of an Educational Exchange program facilitated by Dr. Marie Lee, Director of East/West Child Research and Development Center and former school administrator of the San Francisco Schools, all student expenses in China will be provided in full by the ShenZhen Nanshan Government. The five selected students will perform two dances, Chant of the Sirens and Basin Street Blues. The School of the Arts students were the only students from the United States invited to the Festival in 2006. The three hundred students at the Festival represented countries from around the world including: Australia/ New Zealand, Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Canada, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and others. Along with performing at the Festival students will visit schools, attend art exhibitions, eat new foods, visit tourist locations, and learn about Chinese culture and language while staying with Chinese families and students.

The New Age Movement

Posted in College Education by admin on the February 14th, 2008

What is the New Age Movement? It is similar to New Age Spirituality, but different enough to warrant its own definition. The New Age Movement is a belief that the human race is all one. It is not about equality nor diversity. It is the idea that your gender, age, religion, race, nor sexual orientation makes you better or worse then anyone else. The New Age Movement is moving away from the US against THEM mentality. It is inclusive, open, detached from labels, and above all else, it’s based in love not fear.

At our deepest level, there are only two motivators - love and fear. Fear breeds hate, anger, vengeance, greed, violence, selfishness, and alienates us from truly connecting with spirit and with each other. Love breeds compassion, understanding, forgiveness, charity, gentleness, partnership, and a sense of connectedness with spirit and with each other. One can focus on either motivator and see the logic behind it. Should you choose to see lack, poverty, and attacks towards your fellow man, it’s easy to become fearful. It is part of the survival of the fittest. Fight or flight saved many a caveman to live another day and to breed more like himself. One can also argue that to see the beauty and tenderness that humanity is known to share with each other that it is logical to love thy neighbor and to turn the other cheek. There will always be intelligent arguments for both sides. We as a species have evolved enough to make our own decisions as to which will govern us as individuals.

The New Age Movement proposes that as a collective people we are also able to make an educated enlightened decision as to whether we will be controlled by our fears or by our loves. Will we be a society of angry divided hateful individuals? Or will we be a global community of loving supportive people who honor each other’s right to choose their own path? Like all political, religious, and social movements there are zealots and extremists among the New Age Movement. In the same way that all Christians are not white supremacists and all Pagans are not Satan worshippers, all New Agers are not aging hippies sitting around getting stoned and playing with crystals. Those who endorse the New Age Movement are as diverse as any other group. Their one common belief is that love and true spirituality should lead us as a people, not fear and hatred of anything we deem as different from ourselves.

The New Age Movement embraces the teachings of Christ, the teachings of Buddha, the Native American teachings, the ancient Celtic Pagan teachings, and modern science’s latest findings and teachings. We are explorers trying to understand spirituality on a deeper nuts and bolts level. It is not enough to be told by our parents that one religion is right and all others are wrong. We have a desire to understand and to choose for ourselves what is or is not spiritual. The result is that many New Agers have found themselves holding an eclectic view of religion. Many Native Americans have blended the teaching of Christ within their own beliefs. Many Pagans can see how much they have in common with the Native American beliefs. It is not unusual for Catholics to feel a deep connection to the Buddhist teachings. Forgive me for omitting so many other religions and beliefs but I am simply giving broad examples for the sake of making a point. The New Age Movement was birthed from this exploration of each other’s beliefs. How can we hate someone so much like ourselves?

Christ did not teach blind hatred nor did he teach his followers to give their personal power away to the churches and governments. Only when the churches and governments took over his teachings did that all become part of being a ‘good Christian.’ He did not tell us to hate nor to judge. Bigotry and war is not Christ-like, nor Buddha-like, nor in keeping with the core teachings of any religion. All spiritual teachers taught the same message - love one another and do not harm each other nor the planet and the animals given to you. Take the politics out of religion and they all come down to the same wonderful teachings that have been trampled on by dogma, greed, and bigotry.

Most of America does not realize what a great event we have just experienced. This election was at its root a fight over fear and love. Which would govern us as a country? We are a country under attack. We are a country at war. It is only natural that people are afraid. One candidate ran his entire campaign on fear and hatred of others not like us. The other ran his campaign on love and fellowship. For us to come so close to winning during such a frightening time is marvelous! Were we not at war, I have no doubt that the American people would have chosen to be guided by a leader who chooses love and fellowship as his motivator rather then someone who teaches us to be afraid and to hate others. I have never been so proud or felt that the New Age Movement was so powerful as I do today.

Do not weep and worry about the next four years. Love has taken hold of this country and all will be well. We have covered so much ground towards our goals of tolerance, acceptance, and true spiritual brotherhood. During our great grandparents time, the Gays and Lesbians, the Pagans and Native Americans, the Women and Blacks never would have been allowed to even speak out. We are no longer a minority, those of us who believe that good still exists and that the country can be ruled by humanitarian principles instead of fear and egos ruling our governments. Fear is still strong, but love is finally voted as equal. Balance has been restored. All is well.

What Are Online Masters Degrees?

Posted in College Education by admin on the February 11th, 2008

Online masters degrees are higher education college degrees that are earned over the Internet. In order to apply, individuals must first have a bachelor’s degree in the same field of study as the masters degree they wish to obtain. Masters degrees are offered in many different fields of education. Individuals can receive a degree in accounting, business, management, education and even healthcare.

In recent years the reputation of online masters degrees has grown, making them more attractive and affordable than ever before.

The biggest benefit is the convenience. Individuals that hold a full time job can still complete their degree in record time because the classes and studies are all offered online on a schedule that can be laid out to fit your individual needs.

Another benefit to earning online masters degrees is the increase in income afforded by the degree. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, individuals with a masters degree earn over 170 percent more than their co-workers who only possess a bachelor’s degree or associates degree.

The main drawback to online masters degrees programs is that they are done entirely online. This can be a problem if a student needs extra help with a particular lesson. It can also be hard for a student to get the appropriate personal attention they sometimes need.

To address this problem many online masters degrees programs now offer student tutors or mentor that are available through email to address a student’s personal needs.

For individuals interested in furthering an already established career, an online masters degree offer the best education at the best price and level of convenience.

Bohemian Grove

Posted in College Education by admin on the December 7th, 2007

“Bohemian Grove is ‘the greatest men’s party on Earth’, according to once-regular attendee Herbert Hoover. A secret little getaway for America’s male upper crust, the 2-week long annual retreat in Monte Rio, California, has all the luxuries you’d expect of an elitist clique: outdoor plays, an orchestra, delicious food and beverages, public urination, streaking, and human sacrifices, to name a few. Nestled in beautiful redwood forests, every Republican president since Coolidge has partaken in the gala, as well as a host of other huge names in business and politics. {Many of the discussions in the two week festival end up becoming the tenets upon which the bureaucracy and media begin to act.}

Little is known about its origins. The Bohemian Club was founded, according to its PR people, in 1872 by “five newspapermen, a Shakespearean actor, a vintner and a local merchant” from San Francisco. The male bonding funfest at the Grove itself began in 1879, near the Russian River. It wasn’t long before this yearly custom became an annual tradition which has continued for over 120 years. Members enjoy opera, literature, and music.” (1)

Perhaps the human sacrifices are just mock shows or theatre macabre in the style of Masonic rituals like the killing of Hiram Abiff but there are people who have escaped who say otherwise. Churchill was made a Druid in a well known presentation at Blenheim Palace and Thomas Paine correctly notes that the Masons derive their system from the Druids. This is true for all Luciferians or Heliopolitans who like to trace their history to the early shamanistic scientists and subsequent Chaos Scientists. There is little likelihood that any of these so-called Druids are anything like the Druids who formed the beneficent leadership of the Brotherhood on Earth in the time before Empire. People who like my research and who have sought to spread my message have taken umbrage when I tell them this if they consider themselves Druids or other neo-New Age cults.

Problems of Relocation

Posted in Miscellaneous, College Education by admin on the December 7th, 2007

My friend and neighbour Louise is having problems.

She is a real city girl, and loves the neighbourhood and the community.

BUT! - her husband has been asked to relocate because of his job, and he really can’t afford to say no.

Trouble is, he’s moving hundreds of miles away, to a very quiet little town.

Louise has her own career, which she adores, and is desparate about leaving her job.

She has two children, both in their early teens, and she knows they won’t be happy to move again - they still complain about the last move nearly 4 years ago, and they are far more into their friends at this point in their lives, so she is keeping quiet about the relocation until the very last minute.

She can’t bear the thought of putting them through another major relocation - so soon after the last one.

What can she do?

This is a very familiar scenario, and many couples forced to relocate experience similar reactions - the children resent the move, finding new schools can be a real nightmare, the spouse might not be able to resume their career, the costs of the relocation are much higher than they’ve budgeted for, and the relocation package simply is not adequate, they don’t like or don’t fit into the new community, or even that the cost of living is so much higher in their new situation.
It can be a traumatic time for all concerned. The breadwinner knows they are putting the family through hell, but has no option, and this situation can put great strains on a relationship.

All anyone can do in this type of situation is to do as much research as possible into the full implications for everyone in the family - best to consult a professional relocation service, and to discuss the situation in depth with everyone in the family before commiting to the relocation.

The good news is - thousands of families face relocation every year, and the majority manage to get through it successfully, and even happily

googlefodder

Googlefodder is a term I have always used. I havent particularrly seen it anywhere else but it basically encapsulated all content that google loves. fresh, unique, textual content. content your nan could read and find interesting. Descriptive, useful, keyword maxed, capacitive writing.

In essence its an essential skill of the seo guru. A stereotype born of the birth of the google. Not that I am against google, stereotyping or the google whacking people that attempt to game silicone valley. Either way content (in context) is king.

This is why the internet olympics are at home on google - see Rankrace.com for more information.

- Proper Time Management

The key to increase LSAT score is proper time management. The LSAT examination is composed of different sections that you must answer under time pressure. To prepare for the exam you can use a timer and then answer practice questions as if you are actually taking the LSAT exam. Your goal is to answer as many questions correctly. Remember, you should not spend too much time on one question. If in case you encounter a difficult question and you get stuck on it, try to pick out the closest, possible answer.
